Latest News from the Squadron Sponsoring Committee
As we return to In-person training we are also back to needing to fundraise. As a reminder although our program is partially funded by the Department of National Defense it is mostly funded through parent run fundraising activities. Due to the program not having a entrance fee or cost, the expectation is instead families participate in supporting the Squadron Sponsoring Committee in a number of ways.

Air Cadet League Cash Calendars
A Annual Joint Fundraiser between 12 Squadron and the Alberta Branch of the Air Cadet League, we ask that every Cadet Family sell 3 Cash Calendars for $20 each to friends, families, Coworkers, or even themselves as gifts, keepsakes, or personal use! Once you sell 3, feel free to take more. Parents/Families pay for the Calendars up front, and when selling, have the seller fill out a ticket for a series of cash draws ranging from $250-$1000.

Meetings
As a parent/guardian one of the things we ask all parents to do is participate in parents meetings. At these meetings important information about activities and the current fundraising activities of the Sponsoring Committee are discussed. As our Sponsoring Committee is an official Non—profit organization with bylaws, any meeting MUST have a minimum amount of participants to pass votes and conduct its business. We ASK every family to make an attempt to attend these meetings when they happen, only 1 parent from each family is required.

Meetings happen at the First Wednesday of the month after COs Parade, at our facility at around 7:45pm. The next upcoming meetings are:
2nd November 2022
Other Ways to Support the Squadron Sponsoring Committee
Here are some ways you can help the Support the Sponsoring Committee and the Cadets of 12! These happen throughout the year or later in the year, so if they are not up in the current initiatives, stay tuned!
Boards and Interviews – Every year the squadron conducts several boards and interviews for cadets to test their skills in multiple areas. These boards require League members, parents or civilian members of the community to sit on them over and above the military/cadet staff. Some boards, and interviews and completions are for Effective Speaking, others are to test whether Cadets are ready for higher level ranks such as Warrant Officers, others are for high level Pilot exams. Parents who help with this area would be great with leveraging their experience in leadership, instructing, public speaking or management!
Casino - Once every 2-3 years the Squadron participates in Weekend Casinos, although our current one is complete, we also of other members of our community that needs our assistance. One of our community members, the Legion of the Frontiersman has let us use their facility for free, however have requested we assist with their casino on the 24th/25th of June.
Silent Auction – We are planning a silent auction fundraiser to be held sometime this spring 2022. Each cadet family is expected to provide at least one item for the silent auction. Items can include arts or crafts, tickets to an event, unused gift cards, memorabilia, and many others. Please make arrangements to provide your donated item to the SSC by the end of March. If you have any questions, an SSC member will be glad to help! This will be a great night out as well to connect with others who are invested in our Cadets. Date and location to be announced.
Donate or Craft items for Raffles/Silent Auction – One ways the SSC fundraises is by raffling off prizes, from gift baskets, to hobby items, etc etc. These items can be their own independent fundraisers or be used as prices for other types of fundraising.
Purchase cool items from the Squadron Kit Shop – Currently we have some Squadron Ball Caps and Squadron Coins for Sale at the Squadron that Cadets and families can purchase themselves, or for friends/families as gifts. If you are thinking “That’s it? Just two items?” then see above in the help we need to start a fully functional kit shop!

If you have any questions, would like to help out in these areas, or have great ideas contact the SSC below! Your help is required, and as a reminder fundraising is the cost of entry! This is a free program with no entrance fee, however in order to survive, we need to fundraise effectively.
